1906 Sweet Briar College opens (original name: The Amherst County Poor Girls School)

1907 First known training school for Sunday School teachers was held at Rivermont Ave. Methodist Church

1908 Jones Memorial Library was built. The first Model T Ford was built.

1909 Admiral Perry reached the North Pole

1910 Federal income tax started

1911 First aircraft flown to Lynchburg

1912 Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts were organized. The Unsinkable Titanic hit an iceberg and quickly sank

1913 The Federal Reserve Board was organized, created and was headed by Lynchburg native Carter Glass.

1914 The Great War (WW I) started.

The Panama Canal opened

1917 The US enters the Great War

1918 The War to End All Wars came to an end.

1922 Centenary’s Church Education building    School building started at 1501 Rivermont Avenue, Lynchburg.

1924 Monument Terrace was completed.
