Theme: Our Beginning; 1806-1826 Chairpersons: Earl & Helen Simpson - Celebrated on February 12, 2006 Activities: 1 Introduction of Bicentennial Anthem written by Danny Moore 2 Previous choir members invited back to be part of choir and trumpeter accompanying 3 Children's Bicentennial choir sang 4 Presented a mini pageant, The Praying Rock, written by Dr. Edgar Potts 5 Display board of information of the time period 6 Ringing of 1815 church bell 7 Opening of Cornerstone 8 Coffee afterwards in Fellowship Hall 9 Photographs taken of events Participants: 1 Danny Moore wrote and composed the Bicentennial anthem 2 Frances McKee invited previous choir members to join with our choir; of those invited the following were present: Lee & Judy Aylor, Trudy Coffer, Paul Graves, Jr., Tom Graves, Nancy King, Frances McKee, Carolyn Morgan, and Janet Thompson Schleicher. Other choir members are listed in the program as well; some were unable to attend because of illness and snow. In addition to choir members, Danny Moore secured Michael Straw as trumpeter because of illness of others listed. 3 Children present for the Children's Bicentennial choir were: Kane Campbell, Brandon & Jennifer Coffer, Rick & Wes Smallshaw 4 Participants in the pageant were: Rob Beard as Samuel Mitchell, Jud Gardner as Bishop Francis Asbury, Garland Harper as Lorenzo Dow, Rodney Bell as Bishop John Early, Charles Minor of Jackson Street UMC as The Reverand John Charleston, Steve Smallshaw as Stith Mead, and Alan Takseraas as narrator. Jay Claiborne fabricated and donated the praying rock. Steve Smallshaw provided sound recording of hoof-beats of horse arriving from New Glasgow with Bishop Asbury. Marvin and Frances Unger closed and opened window shutters during pageant. Bob Massie fabricated holder for and operated spot lights 5 Scott Murphy prepared the display board 6 Morgan Gardner rang the steeple bell 7 Carl Howell and helper previously chipped away mortar and removed cornerstone after the church service 8 Helen Simpson and Ida Powell provided coffee and snacks after service 9 Pictures were taken by Bob Staples, Tom Graves, and Betty Wooldridge |
